There are three types of membership:

Full member

Any European institution for osteopathic training and education certified by the “European Norm 16686 Osteopathic Healthcare Provision” and OsEAN ”Standard for the Management of Osteopathic Educational Providers” can become a Full Member of the association.

Full Members who fail to re-audit in time or no longer meet the expected standards during the re-audit process will lose their membership status as Full Member and will become an Associated Member instead.

Associate member

Any institution for osteopathic training that is audited by the “European Norm 16686 Osteopathic Healthcare Provision” and OsEAN ”Standard for the Management of Osteopathic Educational Providers” and did not yet get certified, but is aiming to do so in the future, may become an associate member.

Affiliate member

Any institution for osteopathic training and education whose seat or main educational activities is not located within Europe can become an affiliate member of the association, as well as institutions offering post-graduate training for osteopaths.

The Austrian Standards Institute is OsEAN's partner in quality assurance.

Austrian Standards, established in 1920, is structured in the business divisions  of development, consulting, publishing, training and certification and finances the standardization system by more than 80 percent through the sale of its products and services. Its legal basis is defined in the Standardization Act (Normengesetz 1971).

Austrian Standards is an internationally renowned member of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

According to the OsEAN membership standards from 2014 all existing members have to go through a mandatory audit until the end of 2017 in order to keep their status as a member. New applicants will be accepted only after completing an audit.

Please note that the audit process allows you to provide some documents later on, to complete the audit. Schools do NOT need to translate all documents in English, usually one of the auditors speaks the language of the school.

OsEAN accepts memberships from educational structures which provide education and training in the osteopathic field. Individuals, however, cannot become members of OsEAN.
