Robert Muts, D.O., D.M., M.Sc. / CS Amsterdam

Robert Muts (CS Amsterdam) - OsEAN President


In the years 1970 – 1990 Robert Muts has studied various facets of medicine and complementary health. After his training for physiotherapy, he studied Osteopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy and Integrative Medicine. He has also taken courses in Ayurveda, Orthomolecular Medicine, and Tibetan medicine.

He is director of the College for Osteopathy Sutherland Amsterdam. He is also founder and director of the Integrated Medical Centre in Amsterdam. A centre for diagnosis and therapy in complementary health. For years he has been fascinated by the search for similarities between medicine and complementary health. He has published over more than 200 Articles & columns about Osteopathy and natural health in the Netherlands. He is a teacher in Osteopathy: Anatomy, Physiology, Embryology, the Visceral Field, Philosophy and Concept.

Since 2005 he has worked on the Profession Competence Profile for the Netherlands as a co-author. Which was completed in 2010. Afterwards he has worked on the CEN-project.
Robert was trained as an auditor at the Austrian Standard Institute Vienna to audit osteopathic schools.
He was a Member of the Board from 2013 until 2020 and was president from 2016 until 2020. After one year break, Robert was elected as OsEAN’s President again in 2021.



Raimund Engel, MSc. D.O. / WSO

Raimund Engel (WSO) - OsEAN Vice-president


Raimund is a practicing osteopath and Principal of the Vienna School of Osteopathy based in Vienna, Austria. He obtained his D.O. title from the Vienna School of Osteopathy and his MSc. (Osteopathy) from the Danube University Krems.
Raimund was instrumental in the founding of the school in 1991 as well as in setting up the first osteopathic Master’s program in mainland Europe in collaboration with the Danube University in 2005.
Since 1999 Raimund has become increasingly involved in international osteopathic affairs. He served as the first Honorary Secretary of the World Osteopathic Health Organisation (WOHO) and as President of the Osteopathic European Academic Network (OsEAN) from 2008 until 2016. He is actively involved in promoting osteopathy as a distinct clinical discipline in Austria as well as in other parts of the world.
Raimund has more than two decades of teaching experience in Europe, Japan, Russia and Brazil. He is also a regular presenter at international osteopathic conferences.



Jöry Pauwels, MSc. D.O. / WOMA & Osteon

Jöry Pauwels - OsEAN Secretary

  Jöry Pauwels was born in Belgium in 1976, studied physiotherapy at the Catholic University of Leuven Belgium and continued with Manual therapy and education in teaching. After that continued at Flanders International College of Osteopathy (Fico), moving on from student, to assistant, to teacher, finally becoming joint principal of Fico Osteopathy Academy & Fico MUM until 2023. In 2023 Jöry founded Osteon education in Belgium, Moventum in Slovakia and WOMA in Poland at the Warsaw Academy of Medicine. Professionally Jöry is active at Osteon, post graduate courses, his private clinic, the Osteon clinic and high-end physical sport (osteopath Belgian national rugby and traditional karate team). Apart from working at Osteon & WOMA, Jöry teaches in a number of countries on different continents on (osteopathic) treatment concepts, education, short lever manipulation techniques of the spine & peripheral skeleton and on gynecology & obstetrics. Jöry is a very active Hands with Heart tutor and active in multiple continents, tutoring volunteers in treating children with special needs in remote areas. As an internationally active Rotarian, he provides charity in areas where the need is high (eg. Ukraine). As an active OsEAN board member, Jöry is operating on a European scale. At university Jöry was head of 2 fraternities, captain of the rugby team, member of the educational board committee and was granted the award for sports merit. Currently Jöry enjoys his 2 children, food & drink, telemarking (white slopes and majestic mountains), traditional karate (IOGKF), (motor)cycling, rugby (national division), Belgian weather being an added incentive and golf when recovering from previous activities. Mental tranquility is found in shooting & expeditions. Jöry’s mission for the future is to further the development of OsEAN & osteopathic teaching, the expansion of Osteon, Moventum & WOMA and being a father & Rotarian.



Catherine Clair D.O. MSc (Ost) PGCertHE / ESO - BCOM

Catherine Clair  (ESO) - OsEAN board member   Catherine graduated from the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in 2005 from the CIDO - ESO pathway and has since been actively involved in various roles at the ESO for both undergraduate and international departments as well as practicing in two clinics in Kent.
Following her diploma in Osteopathy, Catherine has obtained a Masters degree in Osteopathy from the ESO as well as a Postgraduate certificate in Higher Education from the University of Greenwich and is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education.
Catherine is an experienced lecturer (MET, Structural techniques, Osteopathic management and Medical screening), examiner and dissertation supervisor for the undergraduate course as well as an experienced interpreter, lecturer, examiner and for the International department in UK. Over the years Catherine has taught in Russia, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Austria and Spain.
She has also gained experience as an external examiner for BCOM on behalf of Plymouth University, London Metropolitan University and Westminster University and is currently External examiner for Final Clinical Competence Assessment at BCOM. She has also taken the role of International Programme Coordinator / Head of International Department at the ESO.
Catherine is interested in all aspects of Osteopathic philosophy and treatment especially how to integrate various approaches to provide the best care possible. Her particular interests are in patients presenting systemic conditions, osteopathy and dentistry, as well the treatment of the elderly.



Marco Giardino, Bsc Ost, D.O. / AIMO

Marco Giardino (AIMO) - OsEAN Treasurer   Marco is a practicing osteopath and Principal of AIMO - Accademia Italiana Medicina Osteopatica based in Saronno, Italy.
Marco qualified from the Istituto Italiano di Osteopatia (IIO) obtaining a Bachelor’s degree issued by South West University in 2001.
In 2011 he founded AIMO together with other partners with the aim of developing a unique course of study in Italy and providing its students with a high-quality education that would enable the prospective professional to easily enter the Italian workplace.
Marco Giardino continues to work in private practice in addition to his work at the AIMO.
