New scientific evidence disputing or refuting the myth is then presented followed by and explanation and evidence for an updated perspective.

Chiropractic & Manual Therapies

The safety of spinal manipulation during pregnancy and the postpartum periods has been a matter of debate among manual therapists. Spinal manipulative therapy during these periods is a commonly performed intervention as musculoskeletal pain is common in these patients. To date there has not been an evaluation of the literature on this topic exclusively.

Osteopathic Family Physician

Functional gastrointestinal disorders describe patients who present with symptoms that arise from the gastrointestinal tract yet have failed to be explained by a standard GI work-up. Somatic findings at mid-thoracic levels correspond to localized visceral dysfunction such as decreased peristalsis and vasoconstriction. The somatovisceral concept suggests that osteopathic manipulative treatment provides relief by normalizing the autonomic tone. There are few reports in the literature that provide examples of successful treatment of FGID by OMT. This case describes a patient with postprandial nausea and vomiting who was successfully treated with OMT.
